When most people think about purpose and destiny, they only think about themselves. They do not realize that God also created them to accomplish a family destiny that would continue generation after generation. Often, understanding one’s family destiny is key to understanding your personal destiny.
The first thing you want to do is to find or create a family tree and record as much information as you can find about your family. We often hear about generational sins being passed down from one generation to the next. What about generational blessings that are passed down from one generation to the next. From looking at patterns, you can often determine family destinies.
As you look at your family tree, ask yourself several questions. Here are some ideas:
• What blessings, strengths did you receive from both sides of your family?
• What positive patterns or strengths can you see throughout your family?
• Are their positive patterns can you see in the kind of ministries, careers, volunteer activities, hobbies that people participated in?
• How did your family members handle money?
• What promises did God make to your family that you can still walk in today?
Let me share with you two examples of family destiny statements developed after analyzing their family tree.
First Family Destiny Statement
Our family has a pioneering spirit. Many people in my family start new things and forge new grounds that impact a whole community. Our family destiny is to become community influencers.
Second Family Destiny Statement
Our family pattern is to purchase of land/property and create family goals on how to use the income generated from these endeavor. Our family destiny is to develop and support family Entrepreneurial projects that result in the whole family unit’s financial success”.
If you are having difficulty discovering your family tree or can’t see generational blessings and positive patterns, don’t worry about it. God can show you what he wants to do in your present family as it relates to a family destiny. You could be like “Abraham” starting a new family inheritance of blessings and purpose.
